A Commentary
I have to admit to not liking Islam. It's not that I don't like Muslims (the individuals), and it's not that I have an inherent dislike for their religious claims (although I believe them false). Rather it's that the greater cultural expression of Islam is evil.
That out in the open, here is some commentary on the ongoing debacle over cartoons.
This morning, I heard on NPR that the violent uproar had been orchestrated in part by some Muslim clerics in Denmark after the cartoons showed up in the newspaper late last year. They wrote a letter to the president asking for a meeting to vent. The President declined, probably because he doesn't see himself as the keeper of the media.
As a result of this 'slight', they embarked on a campaign to orchestrate the uprising by circulating the cartoons through the Arab world. In my opinion, they knew full well what the result would be. To top it all off, they included in the distributed cartoons some particularly incendiary ones that were never published.
That would only be an interesting footnote on the whole event if it weren't for the fact that this is common practice among the Muslim world. It's normal for Muslim clerics to speak to audiences of Muslims and lie. They make silly claims such as "Bush orchestrated the 9/11 attacks to justify a war on Islam!". Or they claim the Holocaust never happened, or any other lie they want to tell about the West, or about America. I've heard of them claiming that certain explosions (either bomb-making accidents, or suicide bomb attacks) were really Israeli or US missile attacks.
All this is part of a campaign to bolster support for Jihad against the West.
Then I see this:
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said the West’s publication of the Prophet Muhammad cartoons was an Israeli conspiracy motivated by anger over the victory of the militant Hamas group in the Palestinian elections last month. “The West condemns any denial of the Jewish holocaust, but it permits the insult of Islamic sanctities,” Khamenei said.
On that same NPR bit this morning I was struck with the irony of the fact that one of the cartoons was described as a depiction of Muhammed with a bomb wrapped in his turban. Presummably, they are offended that Muhammed is being equated with terrorism. To express their anger against this unjustified characterisation of Islam, they proceeded to kill, bomb and burn Danish citizens and buildings....Hmmm.
A religion of peace? Clearly not.

They are the consummate pragmatists: whatever works to further the cause of Islam, and history reveals what that cause is. Interesting thing is that both Islam and Christianity believe that history will end with the return of Jesus. Christians believe they'll be in dire straights before that time and in no position to help dispense justice. I think Islam intends to subjugate the world first and have the heads of their enemies in hand to lie at His feet.
My point exactly. The iranian president, khameni or whatever even said we should run israel into the sea. I completely agree with this post. Good one.
I didn't think to emphasize this in the post, but consider this: Khamenei says that the cartoons were an Israeli conspiracy in anger over the Hammas victory in the recent election.
OK, when was that election? Last week? The cartoons were published in September. And this guy has enough brain cells to be leading a nation?
You know, if Israel had enough clout to influence the world the way claimed by these guys, they'd have the ability to destroy the entire Arab world wouldn't they?
Actually, that's probably an example of just how insidiously powerful Israel is...they knew the future outcome of the election and embarked on a preemptive plot to anger Muslims by attacking with...cartoons!
Today on Fox News they also showed a picture that was being used to rile up the locals by some iman. It was of a Frenchman with a pig snout and fake ears that was dressed up for a hog calling contest. The iman claimed it was one of the published pictures.
Why do we even give these people the time of day? I say if they get a nuke and even think of firing it, we should make the whole Middle East a sheet of glass.
Or at least drill in pump every ounce of oil out of ANWR.
You will go to hell.
If Islam is indeed the true religion then you are correct.
But I believe not.
I really don't like the religions where they say stuff like, "If you don't believe me you will go to hell."
Anyways, I believe that Islam is still a religion of peace. I just doubt the muslims in the middle east are too keen on peace. The Christians have something like this too. One of the commandments is, "Thou shalt not kill."
However:
It means that if you're in the Army, god hates your guts. You're going around killing things, when it says, "DO NOT KILL!"
Same could be said about the Crusades.
Roger, thanks for commenting. I really believe that if you were to study the history of Islam that you would see it's not a peaceful religion. There are simply some peaceful muslims, who in reality are often acting against Islamic ideals in that peacefulness.
Anyone can, and many do, make their own religion or brand of Islam, but that needs to be seen as something other than canonical Islam.
As for not liking religions that say you will go to hell if you don't believe...
Would you say the same kind of statement about the Surgeon General's warning about cigarrette smoking? Of course not, because you believe that emphasema, heart disease, and cancer are real consequences to the behavior.
This is the issue with hell. If hell is tangibly real like cancer, and there are actions or beliefs that lead to the consequence, then it's pretty meaningless for you to say you don't like it.
So just remember that the real issue is whether or not it's true, not whether you like it.
